Pediatric Emergency Medicine PA Fellowship Curriculum

Clinical Curriculum

Based on 52 weeks, including 3 weeks of vacation and 1 week of CME

  • Pediatric ED: 28 weeks
    • Based on 44 clinical hours per week during ED rotations:
      • Three 12-hour shifts/week
      • One 8-hour shift/ every Thursday following PEM conference
        • May include supervised Tele-Health shifts
  • Allen Hospital/Community ED: 2 weeks (shifts hours the same as described above)
  • Pediatric Primary Care: 4-6 weeks includes:*
    • Young Men’s Clinic: 1 week
    • Adolescent Clinic: 1 week
    • Child Advocacy Clinic: 1 week
    • ACN General Pediatrics Clinic- 1-2 weeks
    • Inpatient General Pediatrics: 1-2 weeks
      • Off-site Cornell Medical Center/Harlem Hospital-TBD
  • Pediatric Anesthesia: 1-2 weeks*
  • Bedside US- PEM/EM: 2 weeks*
  • Ortho-Sports Medicine: 1-2 weeks*
  • ENT Outpatient Clinic: 1 week
  • Wounds/suturing elective: Adult ED: 1-2 weeks*
  • Pediatric Trauma: 1-2 weeks
  • Pediatric Ophthalmology: 1 week
  • Pediatric Dermatology: 1 week

*Timing of elective rotations TBD based on off-service availability and credentialing for outside sites. However, the fellow will rotate the first 8 weeks and last 8 weeks in the Pediatric ED.

Didactics/Formal Educational Sessions

  • Pediatric Intern/Resident Conferences
    • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 12noon-1pm
  • Pediatric Chief of Service Conference
    • Wednesday from 8am-9am (attend when relevant)
  • Pediatric Grand Rounds
    • Friday from 8am-9am (attend when relevant)
  • PEM In-Situ Simulation Sessions
    • CHONY ED each Thursday 10:15a-11am
  • PEM Weekly Didactic Conference
    • Thursday from 11am-1pm
  • PEM Fellows Weekly Didactic Sessions
    • Thursday from 9am-10am
  • Pediatric Intern Lecture Series
    • Monday from 12pm-1pm
  • Semi-monthly PA Fellow Learning Sessions
  • Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds (scattered through the calendar year)
  • Formal Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Training
    • 40-hour course

Service

  • Participation in Annual Pediatric Emergency Medicine Steven Z. Miller Health Fair
  • Active participation in Patient Experience Initiatives
  • Identification and recruitment of patients, as appropriate, for on-going ED research studies
