Year 3
Zaynah Abid, MD, MPH
- NewYork -Presbyterian/Columbia University- Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital
Dr. Zaynah Abid completed her MPH at Yale School of Public Health and medical school at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She completed her residency in pediatrics at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Abid’s primary academic interest is in clinical research using large databases. She has published on the use of the PECARN head trauma rule in young infants. She is currently working on a project describing children with congenital heart disease in the emergency department using the Pediatric Health Information System database.
Christie Chen, MD
- Emory University
Dr. Christie Chen is a graduate of Hofstra University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Emory University, where she trained in the Quality Improvement track. Dr. Chen’s primary academic interests include clinical and health informatics and her work is dedicated to improving health care delivery through information technology.
Dr. Chen has conducted both laboratory and clinical research in virology. She is also passionate about community health and child advocacy, leading several initiatives in Georgia and New York.
Dr. Chen has served as an educator globally, working with learners of various levels, from high school students in the National Youth Leadership Forum to emergency medicine residents in Africa.
Year 2
Chelsey Mitchell, MD
- Tufts University School of Medicine
Dr. Mitchell completed medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA and pediatric residency at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital/Columbia University New York, New York. After residency she worked in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Columbia, as a hospitalist for 2 years after which she worked for another 2 years as an acute care pediatrician in our Emergency Room prior to starting fellowship.
Dr. Mitchell's primary academic interest is in Quality Improvement and Operations. She most recently completed a leadership course in Quality Improvement at Cinncinati Children's Anderson Center for Health Care Excellence during which her focus was on improvement of interpreter services and documentation within the pediatric emergency room at our institution.
Katherine Ryan, MD

Dr. Katherine Ryan completed medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She completed pediatric residency and chief residency at NYP-Columbia Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital.
Dr. Ryan's primary scholarly interests are in Operations and QI/Patient Safety. She has previously served on hospital-wide committees including the Quality Assurance/Significant Events Committee, the ED-Inpatient Working Group and the Hospital Operations Performance Excellence Team, and hopes to continue this work as a fellow.
Year 1
Andzelika Dechnik, MD
- Boston Children’s Hospital
Dr. Andzelika Dechnik completed medical school at Weill Cornell Medicine, followed by pediatric residency at the Boston Combined Residency Program at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. Dr. Dechnik’s primary academic interest is medical education.
In medical school, Dr. Dechnik completed research about delirium in the PICU. During residency, she worked on medical education projects, including research on intubation opportunities for learners in pediatric emergency departments. Dr. Dechnik hopes to continue focusing her research on medical education, particularly in the field of pediatric emergency medicine.
Trishell Simon, MD
- Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami
Dr. Trishell Simon completed medical school at The University of the West Indies St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad where she later practiced for two years in the department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Dr. Simon then did a one-year practicum in general pediatrics at Leyte Provincial Hospital in The Philippines. In 2019 she began her pediatric residency in Miami, Florida at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, spending her fourth year as Chief Resident.
Dr. Simon has a strong interest in Medical Education as well as in Disaster and Crisis Preparedness and Mass Casualty Incident Triage. Dr. Simon envisions her professional career operating at the nexus of this specialty care and its positive impact on our most marginalized communities.
